Myelin, a protective cover for the nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord gets damaged - this is called 'demeylation'.
When the myelin intact it works like insulating cable in an electrical circuit, helping to conduct electrical impulses between the brain and spinbal chord to the rest of the body (Preventing short circuits). Messages travel quickly and efficiently alowing for easy and coordinates movement.
When demeylation occurs, messages become jumbled or even fail to get through completely. These areas of demeylation are often called plaques or lesions.
